Sennelier Pastel Pencils

Sennelier pastel pencils are professional-grade drawing tools designed to combine the expressive qualities of soft pastels with the control and precision of a pencil format. They are made using a high concentration of pure pigments, resulting in intense colour saturation and excellent lightfastness. The binder content is deliberately minimal, giving the core a soft, almost powdery texture that allows for smooth blending, layering, and subtle tonal transitions.

Unlike harder pastel pencils, Sennelier’s formulation prioritises colour richness and laydown over durability, this softness makes them particularly well-suited for fine art applications such as portraiture, atmospheric landscapes, and detailed colour work where nuanced gradients are important.

They perform best on textured surfaces like sanded or pastel paper, which can hold the pigment effectively. Because the pigment remains relatively loose on the surface, finished works typically require fixing with a suitable fixative to improve permanence and reduce smudging.
