Staedtler
The name Staedtler is closely linked with the Nuremburg's pencil history. Long before J.S. Staedtler founded his pencil making factory in Nuremberg in 1835 his family had been handmaking pencils for generations. By 1840 the factory was making 63 different types of pencil.
To this day Staedtler is considered one of the finest makers in Europe of artists pencils.

Royal Sovereign Pencil Co.
Here we feature a small selection of some of the most popular pencils from the Royal Sovereign Pencil company.
Formed after World War I from two British pencil manufacturers - The House of Arthur Johnson (est 1803) and E. Wolff & Son (est 1796) - Royal Soveriegn came about as an attempt by the two companies to regain their retail markets. They had abandoned their retail markets during the war as the Allied Governments were buying pretty much everything they made! |

Oil Pastels
A beautifully tactile medium which is ideal for larger scale paintings using vigorous strokes to build up a rich patina of waxy colour.
Can be diluted for blending with turps, or white spirit. As the pastel dissolves it takes on the properties of thinned oil paint. Once dry the area can be worked on with dry oil pastel to add texture or detail..
You can also use oil pastel with watercolour to create interesting textural effects by using it under washes. |
