Bruynzeel Sakura

Boasting 60 years making top quality art pencils, Dutch company Bruynzeel Sakura offer a great range of pencils for all artists. The combination of the two seperate brands Bruynzeel and Japanese Sakura in 1997 gives them a wide appeal that crosses the generations.

Here we concentrate mostly on the artist's brands from Bruynzeel. The 'Bruynzeel Design' range meets all the high requirements expected from pencils designed for proffessionals. A subtle sense of colour, good colour transfer, fine texture and excellent mixing qualities coordinated with a great range of colours and hardnesses. Koh-I-Noor Hardtmuth

Founded in 1790 in Vienna Koh I Noor is a leading manufacturer of pencils and accessories in Europe. The Koh I Noor Pencil production was moved to the Czech Republic in 1848 where it has remained and continued to grow and manufacture new products.

Very hard to find in the UK we hope to add to our Koh I Noor selection as time goes on. Currently we offer the 1500 Graphite Range, the Koh I Noor Polycolor Range, the mondeluz Watercolor Range and the Koh I Noor Gioconda Oil and Hard Pastel ranges.

Conté à Paris Carres Crayons & Sketching Pencils

Conté have been manufacturing some of the finest artists' materials available for more than 200 years. Many artists and grand masters have used Conté à Paris products because of the selection of pigments, lightfastness, and the exceptional brightness and purity of the colours. World famous Swiss manufacturers Caran D'Ache have been making pencils since 1924. With some of the most innovative brands on the market including the Supracolor Water Soluble Pencil, the water resistant Pablo Pencil, the beautiful and superior quality Luminance 6901 pencil and the wonderful Neocolor II Watersoluble Wax Pastel.

Cretacolor

Austrian based Cretacolor offer an excellent range of high quality pencils and pastels. The products reflect the expertise gathered over years of experience and score with high colour intensity, rich colour laydown and superior lightfastness.

Lyra

Lyra pencils based in Germany make an interesting and often innovative range of graphite and colour pencils.

Staedtler

The name Staedtler is closely linked with Nuremburg's pencil history. Long before J.S. Staedtler founded his pencil making factory in Nuremberg in 1835 his family had been handmaking pencils for generations. By 1840 the factory was making 63 different types of pencil.

To this day Staedtler is considered one of the finest makers of artists pencils in Europe.

Here we offer a growing range of Staedtler's art pencils including the Mars Lumograph Graphite Pencil, the colourful Staedtler Lumocolor Pencil and the Mars Ergosoft Graphite Sketching Pencil as well as some of the best of the pencil sharpeners and erasers that Staedter produce.

Tombow

Tombow was originally founded in Japan in 1913 to manufacture pencils. In modern times they have expanded their ranges to include other great art and hobby products.

Royal Sovereign Pencil Co.

Here we feature a small selection of some of the most popular pencils from the Royal Sovereign Pencil Company.

Formed after World War I from two British pencil manufacturers - The House of Arthur Johnson (est 1803) and E. Wolff & Son (est 1796) - Royal Soveriegn came about as an attempt by the two companies to regain their retail markets. They had abandoned their retail markets during the war as the Allied Governments were buying pretty much everything they made!

Now Royal Sovereign Pencil Company still make the ever popular Wolff's Carbon Pencils as well as their Chinagraph range - which mark on any hard surface and can be removed with a cloth - and the innovative Colour Shapers a must for all pencil, paint or pastel artists.

Oil Pastels

A beautifully tactile medium which is ideal for larger scale paintings using vigorous strokes to build up a rich patina of waxy colour.

Can be diluted for blending with turps, or white spirit. As the pastel dissolves it takes on the properties of thinned oil paint. Once dry the area can be worked on with dry oil pastel to add texture or detail..

You can also use oil pastel with watercolour to create interesting textural effects by using it under washes.
